Breakthroughs and Growth Mark New Era for Basalt Fiber Industry

2025-05-16

In a significant stride for the materials sector, the Basalt Fiber industry is witnessing a wave of advancements and expansion. Recently, on April 14th, Xinjiang Tuoxin Basalt Industry Co., Ltd. successfully produced its first batch of basalt fibers after a technological upgrade. This revival, following a hiatus since 2016, was achieved through a “lease + technological transformation” model led by the Alar Economic and Technological Development Zone, with the introduction of CEEC (Xinjiang) New Materials Co., Ltd. The upgrade, which involved doubling the number of holes in the drawing equipment to 400 and adopting a dual - design, has significantly enhanced the annual production capacity to 1,200 tons.

Basalt fiber, a high - performance material, has been gaining traction due to its unique properties. It is heat - resistant, acid and alkali - resistant, insulating, sound - absorbing, flame - retardant, and heat - insulating, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from Aerospace to construction and automotive industries. In 2025, on March 24th, the Basalt Fiber Industry High - Quality Development Conference was held in the First Division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The event witnessed the establishment of the Corps Basalt Fiber Industry Research Institute and the Corps Basalt Fiber New Material Technology Innovation Center, along with the signing of 8 key projects across technology research, and market application.

Moreover, academic research is also fueling the industry's growth. A study from Hebei GEO University, published in the top - tier journal “Construction and Building Materials” in 2024, demonstrated a 51% improvement in alkali resistance and a 46% boost in mechanical properties of basalt fibers through a cost - effective doping method. With continuous innovation and growing investment, the basalt fiber industry is set to redefine multiple sectors in the global market.
