Basalt fiber belongs to what material

2024-10-22

Basalt continuous fiber not only has high strength, but also has a variety of excellent properties such as electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and so on. In addition, basalt fiber production process determines the generation of waste less, less pollution to the environment, and product waste can be directly degraded in the environment without any harm, so it is a truly green, environmentally friendly materials.

Performance Advantages

  • Outstanding temperature resistance;
  • Outstanding tensile strength;
  • Outstanding chemical stability, anti-thermal shock stability;
  • Outstanding dielectric properties, sound insulation properties;
  • Outstanding wave-transparent and wave-absorbing properties;
  • Outstanding acid and alkali resistance.

Basalt fiber application areas

Basalt fiber is now one of the four major fibers (basalt fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber), with its raw materials for the preparation of a variety of products are widely used in national defense and military, aerospace, fire protection, environmental protection, vehicle and ship manufacturing, petrochemical, power electronics, sports, medical and civil engineering and other fields, the following is a brief description of several major application areas.

Invisible

Basalt fiber with high strength, high and low temperature resistance and other characteristics, very consistent with the aircraft, missile surface material requirements, while its wave-absorbing and permeable characteristics, can achieve radar invisibility. So basalt carbon fiber can partially replace carbon fiber for stealth aircraft and missiles.

Bulletproof vest

Currently, bulletproof vests are usually made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, which has low heat resistance, and its strength and modulus will be reduced under the high temperature melting and burning of warheads, thus affecting the bulletproof effect. In contrast, basalt fibers are highly heat resistant and do not have this problem.

Aerospace

Basalt fiber has a low thermal conductivity, good flame retardant properties, and a working temperature range of -269℃~700℃, which is resistant to both high and low temperatures. It meets the stringent requirements of the aerospace industry, and most of the Russian aerospace materials are made of this material.

Automotive Applications

● Automotive Filtration Materials

Basalt fiber automotive filtration materials can filter and separate solid particles in automobile exhaust at high temperature, reducing the pollution of automobile exhaust to the city, and its filter material has the advantage of maintaining stable performance under high temperature conditions.

● Automotive interior materials

Currently more widely used interior materials generally have insufficient strength, heat volatile harmful gases, as well as vibration damping, heat insulation, sound-absorbing performance is poor, etc. Compared with the more widely used glass fiber in the interior materials, the sound-absorbing and heat-resistant properties of the basalt fiber is much greater than the E-glass fiber, which is more in line with the requirements of high stiffness, lightweight, fire-retardant, low-cost and does not pollute the environment.

Road engineering field

Basalt fiber has the advantages of high tensile strength, good mechanical properties, high temperature resistance, UV protection, acid and alkali resistance, salt resistance, anti-aging and so on. Compared with other fibers, its comprehensive performance is better, and also meets the requirements of the road engineering field of materials. Therefore, in recent years, more and more basalt fiber products have been used in road engineering.

Basalt fiber through the warp knitting process made of mesh substrate, the surface coating treatment can be made of basalt fiber geogrid, usually used in asphalt pavement enhancement, reinforcing the roadbed and soft soil base; short-cut basalt fibers can be used for asphalt mixtures, cement concrete and gravel sealing; basalt fiber composite tendons in the field of road engineering is mainly used for cement concrete pavement.
